Sugaring

We are bringing sugaring services to the NW Houston area as one of our hair removal options.

Our sugar paste/wax are made with certified organic ingredients to gently remove unwanted hair similar to hard and soft waxing methods. Only therapist who have taken the sugaring certifications can perform this service.

What is sugaring?

The latest buzz in hair removal, body sugaring, is actually an art that has been around for thousands of years. Originated by the Egyptians, and used in practice throughout Europe for centuries, this technique is far from new.

The skin care industry is seeking more natural and organic methods to treat the skin, and sugaring answers that need. Sugar paste is made up simply of all natural food-grade ingredients: sugar, lemon juice, and water. The paste has the consistency of soft taffy and is spread, or “molded”, onto the skin against the direction of hair growth. The sugar seeps down into the hair follicle and wraps itself around the bulb of the hair. When the sugar paste is flicked off in the direction of hair growth, the entire hair, including the bulb, slides out naturally in the direction it grows. This method may cause less irritation and complete removal of the entire hair.

What other hair removal options do we have? We offer full body hard wax aka stripless wax services. We do not offer soft wax, strip wax, or threading services.

Discount packages available as a package of 6 for the price of 5 sugaring services, must be the same area. Contact us with any questions or to inquire about sugaring.

Sugaring vs Waxing

Take the #SugaWaxChallenge! This service is a hybrid hair removal technique using sugaring and hard wax. We will let you decide if you are Team Sugar or Team Wax.

Sugaring vs Waxing is a question you would have asked if you are someone who loves summer skin. While Waxing and sugaring are often grouped together, as popular hair removal methods that have a longer effect on the skin than shaving, there are peculiar differences between both methods of hair removal.

Sugaring is a hair removal technique that uses an all-natural paste to pull off body hair. Sugaring looks like waxing. However, it is gentler on the skin and it consists of sugar, lemon juice, water, and glycerin.

It is a genuinely safe and organic alternative to conventional waxing.

Benefits of Sugaring:
🍯 Not as painful as waxing, but one may feel a little pain depending on each individual’s threshold of handling pain
🍯 It’s all-natural (This is great for people who may have allergies to certain ingredients or just prefer purely natural ingredients on their body)
🍯 Sugaring more often helps the hairs on your body grow thinner and it makes your next session easier and less painful
🍯 It is great for sensitive skin

Waxing is the removal of hair from the root by carefully pressing a sticky substance to cover the body hair, and then removing this covering while intentionally pulling out the hair from the follicle.

Benefits of Waxing:
🍯 It effectively removes hair from the root
🍯 It is a better option for thicker body hairs compared to sugaring
It leaves the body clean and really smooth
🍯 It is a fast and efficient method of hair removal

Sugaring and waxing might not be advisable for everyone, and there are several limitations to consider.

Pre-Treatment Recommendations:

  • Let hair grow at least 1/4 of an inch, about the length of a grain of rice. The esthetician may suggest coming back a week or two after your initial sugaring treatment as hair grows in different stages. Please understand that if hair is left behind it is because the hair is at a different stage.
  • We advise clients who use dermatological prescriptions such as Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Accutane not to get sugaring treatments as the skin becomes weakened and cause the skin to tear when waxed. Please advise your physician.
  • Women who are pregnant or are about to begin their menstrual cycle must be aware that sugaring treatments will feel more painful because blood flow increases and hormones make hair coarser increasing the chances of hair breaking off.
  • Moles, skin tags and bruises will be avoided.
  • Wait at least 24 hours after a tanning booth service.
  • Wait at least 24 to 48 hours after shaving to get a sugaring treatment.
  • Wait at least 1 week after a chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment.
  • Optional: You can take over-the-counter pain relievers approximately 30 minutes before your sugaring treatment to minimize pain.
  • Having an exfoliation regimen will benefit your sugaring services as well prevent unwanted ingrown hairs. We suggest exfoliating before your sugaring service(s).

Post-Treatment Recommendations:

  • Take a cool shower 6 to 8 hours after your sugaring treatment.
  • Avoid applying any products on the skin for 6 to 24 hours depending on the type of sugaring treatment.
  • No activities that will cause you to perspire like going to the gym or sexual activity for 24 hours.
  • No applications of deodorant after an underarm sugaring treatment for 24 hours.
  • No hot tubs, hot showers/baths, or saunas for 24-48 hours.
  • No Heated or chlorinated pools for 24-48 hours.
  • No Swimming in salt water for 24-48 hours.
  • Apply Sunscreen and avoid sun exposure for 48 hours.

Contraindications:

  • Diabetes
  • Varicose veins
  • Poor circulation
  • Sunburned, irritated or broken skin
  • Laser skin resurfacing within the past year
  • Physician administered peels within the past two years.
  • Clients who previously used Accutane must have been discontinued for at least a year before getting sugaring treatments.
